Apology, a.k.a. Folkers-mania

June 5th, 2009 by I Love Nerd York City

The flu-bug has hit Nerd Central, and hit it hard, preventing me from making yesterday’s regularly scheduled post. As an apology, here’s some more Rich Folkers, who is clearly putting the “if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it” saying to the test.

  1. Someone bothered to get a Rich Folkers card professionally graded?

  2. Seeing as I can’t get enough of Rich Folkers, this works for me.
Folkers was once involved in a trade for Ben Oglivie, with Folkers and Jim Slaton going to Detroit, who sent Oglivie to Milwaukee. This trade did not work out too well for Detroit, as Folkers did not even appear in a single game for them. Slanton worked out only a little better, giving Detroit 212 innings of 94 ERA+, then leaving via free agency after one season. Oglivie played 9 seasons with Milwaukee, seven of them healthily above average. The three immediately after the trade where had OPS+’s of 143, 131 and 153.

Now THAT is some shiny astroturf.
