The fact that a Mr. Rogers look-alike was able to have a career in Major League Baseball is made more disconcerting when you learn that Mr. Folkers was only 28 years old when this picture was taken!!!

  2. This guy was out of baseball at the age of 30. At that point, he needed a walker to reach the mound; his entrance from the bullpen took a really long time.

  3. Wow – he really looks decrepit. At first, I assumed this photo was supposed to show his pitching motion, but now I’m pretty sure he’s just hunched over due to 70 or 80 years of bad posture.

  4. Six Degrees of Nerd Separation: Following the 1974 season, the Cardinals, Padres, and Tigers were involved in a three-team trade. In that deal, Rich Folker went to the Padres and fellow nerd (previously featured on Nerd Baseball) Ed Brinkman went to the Cardinals.
