This is Mr. Knicely’s 1986 Topps card. Anyone want to guess which television drama about cops in South Beach was a top-ten-hit that year?

I have a softspot for Alan Knicely. He looks like a player stuck in the wrong generation. The glasses are low hanging fruit, but with that beard and likely unkempt hair, he seems like a better fit smoking an apple bong at the Isle of Wight circa 1969 than digging out curveballs at the Vet in 1986. He also looks like every guy in my Dad’s college yearbook.
I’m giving him a low nerd rating, but if we ever develop a metric for measuring guys who would likely listen to Vanilla Fudge in the dugout, he’s near the top of my list.
I think he’s our first hipster nerd baseball player. I also second the search for a metric of likelihood to listen to Vanilla Fudge in the dugout, and possibly the creation of a new blog to celebrate it.
