Mr. Fermin is a throwback to the days of NerdBaseball on MySpace. In 1996, Mr. Fermin was nearly traded to the Yankees for Mariano Rivera. After that same season, he ended his career with a total of four home runs in 2,767 at bats.

  1. The Yanks should have pulled the trigger on the Fermin deal. What did Rivera ever do for them? Also, in 1996, the Yanks were desperate for a shortstop. Did they ever end up finding one?

  2. Dr. Nerd says:

I seem to remember Kevin Elster doing a pretty good job for the Yanks in 1995. I don’t know why they didn’t keep him. He’s no Felix Fermin, though.
