    In my too quick write-up I missed this gem. Per Wikipedia, Plunk was “the inspiration behind the character Rick Vaughn from the Major League movies.”

    Actually, the inspiration for Ricky Vaughn was Ryne Duren according to the writer. http://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ryne_Duren
