I just turned on SportsCenter and immediately heard the following gem from Chris Berman:
(Highlight of a guy on the Saints getting tackled)
“…and David Thomas english-muffins his way to the four yard line!!!”
Gotta love any time a breakfast item is used as a verb to describe a football player getting tackled.

I did get maple syruped once during a touch game in 6th grade. Nerdicus, I think you were there too.
Dr. – I was there. It was Grade B syrup – I’ll never forget it.
dont think english muffins was used as a verb – think berman was using it as nickname – ie was referring to player as ‘david thomas english muffins’ (like ‘jerry minute rice’)
That is an interesting theory, rd. But as it’s less funny and/or ridiculous that way (albeit only slightly), I’ll continue to believe he used it as a verb.
I agree that he was attempting one of his pun/nicknames, but the “english muffins” portion of the nickname was most definitely being used as a verb.
Let’s break it down, 6th grade english class style.
David Thomas (subject)
english-muffins (verb)
his (possessive)
way (direct object)
to the four yard line (prepositional phrase)
If we say that “David Thomas english-muffins” is all nickname, that means theres no verb in the sentence (and therefore its not a sentence).
The defense rests.
And from a science teacher no less! Great work, Nerd York City.
