The run on Vorpy’s ’92 Score set continues…What struck me when I saw Mr. Briley’s eye-wear for the first time was their similarity to Jon Lajoie’s “Rapist Glasses.”  Mr. Briley is now a minor-league hitting coach in the Chicago White Sox organization.

I was pretty sure I had seen this guy playing “class nerd #2″ in at least four different ’80s comedies. It turns out he had a ten-year career in MLB, and even made an All-Star team.

Mr. Walter tied the AL record for most balks in a game, with 4, on July 18, 1988.  The 1988 season proved to be Mr. Walter’s last in the majors, depite his card coming from the 1989 Topps set.

If you check out a player’s baseball-reference.com page, you can usually find something interesting to talk about. Some weird statistical trend, an unexpected performance, a top-ten stats category you didnt know existed…unfortunately, here’s the best I’ve got for Mr. Quinones: In 1989, Mr. Quinones was 3rd in the National League in sacrifice flies (with 8).

While many baseball nerds have the “hat placement” tag bestowed upon them, Mr. Quinones is the first to receive the coveted “helmet placement” tag.

An untapped resource for nerds–nerd managers. Why is he wearing a mesh cap? He’ll be killed on talk radio for that decision…

The Seattle Times is reporting that Mariners third baseman Adrian Beltre might miss the rest of the season after taking a grounder to his groin in Wednesday’s game against the White Sox.

Beltre is out indefinitely with a contusion to his right testicle that might require surgery.

People give baseball players a tough time for taking too many days off. Let’s agree to cut Mr. Beltre some slack.
