In 1980, he was involved in trade that included fellow nerds <a href="http://www.nerdbaseball.com/2009/04/rick-auerbach/#" target="_blank">Rick Auerbach</a> and <a href="http://www.nerdbaseball.com/2009/04/mario-mendoza/#" target="_blank">Mario Mendoza</a>. He was drafted in the first round by the Texas Rangers in 1979.</p>
